Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Basic Materials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.18%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.26%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which rose 11.84% or 32.95 points to trade at 311.34 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 5.97% or 10.33 points to end at 183.36 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 2.24% or 7.50 points to 343.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which lost 1.09% or 2.97 points to trade at 270.31 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 0.80% or 1.86 points to end at 230.64 and JPMorgan Chase&Co (NYSE:JPM) shed 0.59% or 1.13 points to 190.53.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) which rose 11.84% to 311.34, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 7.67% to settle at 114.20 and Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:LYV) which gained 7.23% to close at 94.65.
The worst performers were Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) which was down 15.25% to 115.33 in late trade, Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT) which lost 9.69% to settle at 58.88 and Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 7.03% to 12.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Beneficient (NASDAQ:BENF) which rose 255.21% to 6.82, Safe&Green Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SGBX) which was up 89.08% to settle at 5.54 and Arteris Inc (NASDAQ:AIP) which gained 38.45% to close at 8.21.
The worst performers were Mobilehealth Network Solutions (NASDAQ:MNDR) which was down 84.64% to 3.39 in late trade, Sprout Social Inc (NASDAQ:SPT) which lost 40.15% to settle at 28.82 and Uniti Group Inc (NASDAQ:UNIT) which was down 26.37% to 4.44 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2076 to 768 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2090 rose and 1283 declined, while 111 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.11% to 13.49 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.03% or 0.75 to $2,310.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.14% or 0.90 to hit $78.05 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.81 to trade at $82.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.47% to 152.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 104.94.
